FAQs

Is there a warranty?
Simple! - TWO YEARS on everything, backlight, parts, labor, and electronics. Best in the Business!

Quality Assurance
All Liquid Monitors are in compliance with DICOM 3.14 specifications. SBC (Stable Brightness Control) or "automatic sensing" is another QA feature. SBC is a sensor that automatically detects the backlight and calibrates the LCD display to maintain consistent image quality and backlight stabilization. The sensor constantly monitors the luminance output of the backlight and automatically adjusts as needed. NOTE - Sensors are on all backlights except the 5MP LCD where we have sensors on the front and back.

Gamma (y-correction) Calibration
Periodically further Gamma (curve) correction may be needed depending on the application or site requirements. In this case we have available accurate DICOM calibration devices.

Glossary of Terms

Backlight
The light source for a transmissive LCD. Direct-lit backlights use CCFTs (cold cathode fluorescent tubes) and a diffuser pane directly in back of the liquid crystal layer.

Bit Depth/Colors
The number of colors that can be viewed on a given LCD or monitor. Bit depth is normally a term used to describe the number of visible gray shades on an LCD. 8 bit is equal to 255 shades of gray. 10 bit is 1021 shades of gray. 11 bit is 2042 shades of gray.

Brightness
This is the light output (luminance) of the monitor measured in Candelas per meter squared (cd/m2) commonly referred to as just Candelas. Foot lamberts (fL) is also used as a measure of brightness or luminance.

Candelas (cd/m2)

An international unit of measuring luminous intensity Luminance may be described in units of Candelas per square meter or nits.

Contrast

The level of variation between light and dark areas in an image.

Contrast Ratio
The ratio of light intensity between the brightest white and the darkest black. The ratio of peak white to black level. 500 cd/m2 white level with 1 cd/m2 black level is equal to 500:1 contrast ratio.

Foot Lamberts (fL)
A unit of measuring brightness (luminance) commonly used in the U.S. One-foot lambert is equal to approximately 3.426 Candelas per meter squared.

Graphic Controller Cards
The Graphic Controller Card is sold and packaged with our LCD monitors. These cards are individually tested with our LCD's as a package to insure the display system meets our high quality standards. The graphics cards sold with our monochrome LCD's are all "dual-head" meaning each card would support two monochrome LCD's. Color LCD's are sold with single-head graphics cards.

Input Signal
This is the video input interface. Analog monitors use 15 pin sub-D connectors or BNC connectors. Digital monitors use DVI-D. Video cameras use S-Video.

LCD (liquid crystal display)
A display composed of liquid crystal suspended between two transparent sheets. The display is composed of pixels or other shapes which can be turned on or off with electrical stimulation.

Liquid

-adj. 1. Transparent;shining 2. Flowing;clear

Liquid Crystal

The compound found in liquid crystal displays. Liquid crystal reacts predictably when electrically stimulated. This makes it the ideal compound to turn LCD pixels on or off.

Luminance
A measure of the brightness or luminous intensity of light, usually expressed in units of Candelas per square meter (cd/m2) or foot Lamberts. 1fL = 3.426 cd/m2.

Resolution
Screen resolution refers to the number of pixels on the screen. The more pixels the higher the resolution rating. If a monitor has a rating of 1200 X 1600, this would correspond to 1200 horizontal pixels per line and 1600 pixels in each vertical column. A monitor with a rating of 1200 X 1600 ( 1200 X 1600 = 1,920,000 pixels) would be considered a 2M Pixel resolution monitor. Note - Graphic Controller cards or video cards as they are commonly called effect the resolution as much as the number of pixels.

Nit
A unit of luminance equal to 1 cd/m2 or 0.292 f.L.

Pixel
PICture Element; the smallest unit on a computer CRT or LCD.

Viewing Angle
The widest angle of view that still allows you to see the image or text on the screen.
